5 Wasteland Hacks for Post-Apocalyptic Disc Jockeys

Congratulations, you survived the end of the world. That means you’re very capable, pretty clever, or extremely lucky. Regardless of how you survived, not dying is just the beginning, and life after the apocalypse is not going to be easy. Be prepared for the end of the world as we know it and the post-apocalypse with Wasteland Hacks.

______________

Broadcasting Live to a Dead World

For the wasteland disc jockey, the pressure is real. You’re not just spinning tunes in your fallout shelter; you’re are laying down the soundtrack to the wasteland for all those poor souls caught on the wrong on the wrong side of the blast doors. Spirits needs lifting and moods need boosting like never before and it’s up to you to broadcast hope into the post-apocalyptic hellscape.

Here are 5 Wasteland Hacks to be the best disc jockey this side of Armageddon.

Know Your listener

It’s important to put yourself in the place of your listener. Not literally. That would be crazy. The poor bastards are stuck in the wasteland and you’ve got this cozy bunker. But figuratively. They are frightened, starving and chances are pretty good they smell really bad. While playing a selection of vintage food and personal hygiene commercials may normally give folks a touch of the nostalgies, in this instance it would be more like rubbing their faces in it. It would also be wise to avoid playing any Nickleback. You don’t want to make them any more miserable than they already are.

Research and be Informed

Even if you’ve chosen a musical format, you’re still going to be one of the primary sources for news is the wasteland and your listeners are going to be relying on you to informed. You’ll need to know what mutant predators are active in the broadcast area and which local warlords are currently in power. Of course, you don’t want to peek your head out of your lair to find out, which leads us to the next hack.

Build a Community

You don’t have to turn into a talker adion station, but hosting a call-in segment is going to enable you to stay up to date on the outside world without risking assault, contamination or getting any of what’s out there on you. Encourage your listeners to radio in for on air segments. Invite listeners to share stories, advice and even recipes. Get them calling and grow your information network.

Be Authentic

It’s important to let your personality shine through and be genuine in your interactions with listeners. Be open and honest. But never, ever tell them where you are or what your real name is.

No Nickelback

Just don’t.

OK, THAT is funny! All your stuff is funny—a lot of it is hysterical. I do a lot of serious reading—occupational hazard. I am an ordained minister and licensed bartender working as an EMT in a level-two trauma center. It’s complicated. When I need a break, I Duck and Cover. Your plot lines read like you are teetering on the edge of Terry Pratchett’s Disk World, and your characters combine Ringling Brothers and the Fort Worth Zoo. Also, I love your stickers. My twisted spirit animal is the Over Caffeinated Owl. Keep going, Brother! You make the apocalypse bearable.

I am becoming a fan of the apocalypse. Currently about halfway through Pursuit of the Apocalypse and laughing in places better left unmentioned. Add to that the latest online hack about DJs and am just about to bust something! And BTW, I love Nickelback LOL

Even a mushroom cloud has a silver lining.
